Location: Juneau
Design: Farrell Homebuilding LLC
Construction: Corban Custom Construction
Situated in one of Alaska’s oldest neighborhoods, this home is perched on an impressively steep slope and its only access is via a network of boardwalks. The lot was deemed unbuildable until the current home owner recognized its potential. We worked to create a home that took advantage of the sweeping views of Gastineau Channel and downtown Juneau. Its foundation straddles seasonal runoff with a series of concrete buttresses and timber bracings. The rooflines are in keeping with the neighborhood and the materials tell the story of southeast Alaska. Salvaged wood from a Prince of Wales cannery make up the floors and stairs; timbers, siding and decking are from a local sawmill.
